Family first, but at what cost?
We’re often told that family comes before everything. But what happens when that loyalty means putting up with behavior you'd never accept from anyone else?
If your own mother is always late, leaving you waiting again and again, do you stay silent out of respect, or set a boundary to protect your time?
Be honest:
Would you still let it slide... just because it’s your mom?

being late? I would let it slide.

because when we were young children we kept her waiting all the time. now if i have to wait for her, its not an issue, i'll move my schedule for her. some filial piety where deserved is worthy.

i cut my parents out of my life years ago. no, you have no obligation to suffer abuse and cruelty from someone just because they raised and cared for you. you do not have to forgive anyone for anything, you choose who gets to stay in your life. it took me years of being beaten senseless by my alcoholic parents before i realised "hey wait, this is not normal." so my brother and i fled home when we were teenagers and never looked back.

do what you need to do to survive and be happy, even if it means cutting out family. blood means nothing if there is no love with it.

though your situation does not seem so extreme yet, so do not be cutting her out of your life or nothing drastic. in your case since this seems like a common issue with her, set a boundary. tell her she needs to respect your time and also her own, because you are tired of her lack of respect. say it a little nicer than this obviously, but something needs to be said or the behaviour will continue.

The cult of family has done irreparable damage to the human brain.
being late is not the end of the world, even if it could be annoying sometimes, so yeah i'll let it slide of course.

Your mom endured 9 hours of pain to drop your butt in this world. A little patience for her when she's a few minutes late isn't asking a whole lot.

if it becomes a habit there wont be many instances until the waiting has exceeded the birth.

counting coins getting there isnt a very healthy relationship; you may as well have hired a keeper instead.

You're the one counting coins.
Family only comes first if you're the one who chose to start the family.

Otherwise; the blood of the covenant.
I prefer to not question it.
A mother is never late, nor is she early, she arrives precisely when she means to...

we are born of the blood, made men by the blood, undone by the blood. fear the old blood

Oh there's a line that cannot be crossed. Or else.

The irony is communism and socialism both work well when constrained to the family unit. Then when the younger members are eligible, they leave and hopefully lather, rinse and repeat.
