I got scratched by a stray cat, should i be worried?
I saw the cat hiding under a truck and called out to it, it came out and let me pet it. But it gave a playful swipe at my forearm. Its not bleeding bad but could it be rabies? These shots are 5K here in the US. I looked at its mouth and it didnt look like it was foaming

Lookup your area with the words 'Rabies' and see if anything comes up. But honestly rabies is one of those things you don't want to mess around with and put off because once symptoms show it's too late to do anything.

So this is how the Zombie Apocalypse starts.
uhhh rabies shots were a standard requirement to enter school in the us since 30+ years ago...used to be a pretty big issue on the frontiers, even after vaccines became normalized, because it was perceived as 'just marginal enough' to drive the price upwards on a $30 shot.

so the government made it compulsory for public education and systems trying to achieve parity with it. it's usually associated with FDR, but the exact source of this initiative is unknown and FDR was reportedly uncomfortable with the idea as it drew attention to his polio. which he had because of a similar reluctance to implement low-cost vaccination.

Go to a local hospital's Emergency Room and have a real doctor confirm its not Cat Scratch Fever(a real infection, but also a popular song) or something else.
If its nothing you get to leave, possibly with a simple antibacterial prescription.
But if its something you probably have a short time before you can't walk. Maybe have someone else drive you there instead, just to be safe.

Get someone to pee on the scratches. That’s the remedy.
better go to a hospital to make sure its nothing,
Rabies is only transmitted through saliva or bodily fluid from the infected animal and is also extremely rare in cats.
If you need extra assurance, a rabid animal will behave either abnormally aggressive (furious rabies) or confused and disoriented (dumb rabies).

cats lick their paws and have a congealant in their saliva.

it's rare because they tend to enact a toxic shutdown as the virus progresses, before a frenzy can develop.

it's a similar reaction as the honey badger when it gets bitten. the cat simply doesn't wake up again, but if it had been a venom they might have starved it out.

Unless the animal was wandering around in a drunken like state it didn't have rabies and neither do you. I wouldn't worry about it.

just disinfect the wound, you're fine. you'd know if the cat had rabies

you literally wouldn't because of the saliva drying and the small window between infection and shutdown. it's just a matter of getting scratched at the wrong time.

it's not as clear cut as seeing a bloated deer chewing on a bird with a happy look in its eyes.

Your chance of getting anything from one mild cat scratch is about the same
as getting hit by lightning 45 times in a row.

By the way, my Alien IQ is far too high to believe your story. I will investigate ... and perhaps destroy your entire universe.

You're jolly welcome my friend :KneelingBow:

incidents of rabies are extremely low in cats. if you are worried do what this poster below suggested.

you can usually be finding reports of rabies in your city/area explaining that a bat, raccoon, skunk etc was confirmed to or suspected to have rabies in a certain area. such warnings usually say to keep your farm animals secure and bring inside any dogs or cats.
