Japanese make urban legend about a 8'ft woman to scare kids.
Local manidiot looks up on what exactly is supposed to be scary about someone just being 8'ft tall.

Gets more unsatisfying answers that is almost the equivalent of trying to understand the lore of Kingdom Hearts.

Random men on the internet often say, "Go on." with interest.
Manidiot replies with those answers, "Say what now?"

...Basically I don't understand the horror of a ghost woman that supposed to be 8'ft tall.
While in this day and age there are plenty of guys out there who like really tall women.

Could be just me after fighting lots of horrifying threats in video games.
Horror standards are different for everyone but this horror story... did not age well.

Cause when the lesson is to teach kids to be cautious and stay safe.... but then finding out the same threat is also a tall lady... it's like my cat deciding to jump on my head or shoulder just to get to the other side of a high place levels of bewilderment when I also found out that guys would want to date something that towers over them.

I'm not saying it's bad. I'm saying that I now got the scene in my head of a guy being confronted by a 8'ft tall women like any horror movie scenario and the first thing he says to her is "Hey, you wanna go on a date?" all in Japanese. She agreed and now my only response in seeing all that is, "Ayo, WTF?"

very common in japanese folkore. yokai and spirits and demons all over the place. demons in the closet, in the loo, hiding in pots and rubbish bins.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuchisake-onna

ever heard of this one? she walks around hiding her grotesque glasgow smile beneath a mask. she hunts down random peoples and asks them if they think she is pretty (with the mask on), and then removes the mask and reveals her grotesque face, asking the question again. then she kills the person usually.

most japanese mythos are scary.
how do you know it's not a 6 foot person wearing 2 feet of stilts, and who now has enough leverage to spin your neck around with a slap?

would anyone feel safe near such a person, as long as they wore the stilts? their personality isn't really the issue, here, it's the fact that they have a gun for a body ...

Yeah I think i've heard of it.
That's the one where she straight up kills you if you reject her for not liking her face and straight up disfigures yours to be like hers if you do. (And possibly die.)
While you're alone of course due to all horror stories have dramatic effect when the victim is alone.

It's still pretty painful regardless. Until I realize what if the victim had a gun in their pocket at all times for self defense.

...Is it wrong to not be scared by thinking outside what if's?

Then you could expect the monster to have a gun too, and also to be a monster on top of that.

They might even be immune to bullets, and just carry the gun around to mess with people. Many crane tengu would do this with swords, pretending to be crow tengu.

in japan it would be pretty unlikely to have a gun for self defence, especially on ones person. guns and ammo cannot even be stored in the same place unless you are hunting or at a range or something. you keep your gun at home and the ammo in a safe at a separate location. it is why the recent assassination of ex prime minister shinzo abe, the killer had to make a gun from household supplies.

in one of my favourite manga that is actually a plot point, "i am a hero". the main character is a gun otaku, and since guns are so rare in japan he is able to get his gun and ammo when the zombie apocalypse starts. but he is one of the very, very few who has a gun. so it makes him rather powerful in the scenario.

you know i realised reading your story now that i have heard of this "eight foot tall" woman. i have seen lots of great art of her, standing in fields of flowers or at bus stops. wearing a snow white dress and a sun hat to disguise her face.
An 8ft tall woman is probably one of the least weird things in Japanese mythology tbh.

8 ft tall woman, you say?

we're pretty sure that series of 1chan scrolls was just kage trying to dial back causing the myth to be made in the first place.

gosh if only his feelings mattered before he acted, rather than after he's been kusoge.

Fellas, hear me out. . . .
I suppose the idea is that she's basically a giant. A particularly small one, but still a giant. The fear that comes from giants isn't from any particularly special trait other than strength and reach proportionate to their size.

Anybody that big would be somewhat intimidating. I mean Andre the Giant was only 7'4", and Shaq is 7'1, and those people already have an imposing presence. Anybody who those people look up to to make eye contact is going to be even more intimidating because we have the expectation that bigger is stronger. However, that's only true up to a point. Human physiology can only successfully accommodate heights so high before it starts becoming problematic. It's a strain on the bones, the circulatory system and the lungs. These people have trouble standing on their own two feet.

Here you can see Shaq being measured up against a ruler and Robert Waldo, who was almost 9 feet tall.[www.instagram.com] The woman would be somewhere inbetween, as indicated by the ruler.

Here you can see the world's tallest woman next to the shortest fully grown woman (who looks like a toddler)[www.euronews.com], and here you can see her next to normal eight women[www.cnn.com]. Her name is Rumeysa Gelgi and she is almost the same height as Shaq, maybe a barleycorn shorter, so again, you have to imagine this 8 foot tall mythological woman is nearly a foot taller. Moreover, since she is a fiction, you have to imagine that she is unencumbered by her own size. I would suppose this mythological woman also doesn't need a walker to stand.

Imagine such a woman shouting "The Dread Pirate Roberts is here for your soul!" for a moment here and tell me what you think.

Oh, and children are not usually allowed to carry guns, so that's a no-go for self-defense.

For Japanese back then that most have around 150-160 cm height, A 2.4M tall woman would be nothing less than ogre.

...Still abnormally tall even with today standard.

Japan is a backward country. Buddhism is evil.

Stay away from them.

Christ is King.
