If I get paid for it then why not? Live a simple life, eat food, pray, and build a house.
No.

I have lived next to their communities before and, while I see nothing wrong with them, such a lifestyle is most definitely not for me.
My life style would cause issues, seems like a nice life though. Very peaceful and well maintained sense of community apart from the shunning :bluerune::luv:

saw some stuff they built, they came in and build a small cabin by a lake in one day lol, forgot to ask if they got the materials in with horses, it was like half the price and they did it in one day instead of a week, like 12 guys for one small cabin

An Amish year, or a normal person year?

Nah, life is too short already. I'd rather spend a year talking to you all, y'all lovely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of OT.

i do not know about amish specifically, but i would definitely try some kind of "low tech/no tech" style living in a commune or temple or some such for a year. i think it would be the type of thing that would likely be very positive overall to most peoples.
No, it doesn't look like fun and I'm confident it wouldn't be fun.

You misspelled "fullfilling", but to each it's own.

nah that's not taking low tech far enough. gotta go full caveman
would love to.. it's the dream life..

to bad.. that while I had this idealistic idea of them having no personal property (they just build as a community you a barn.. to live in and you get gifted 2 sets of clothing and a cart to use.. all your life..
zero jobs outside.. mandatory 14 hour 6 days a week working on the communal land.. surpluss produce is sold and that money is used to buy more land to grow the land the community holds.)
-
sadly thats not true..

I love the preindustrial living and would love that part....

also while I am reformed dutch and menno who founded the mennonites aka the amish.. was dutch.. so I am already very close to them.. as a phd educated person and a teacher I value knowledge very much... and I also love poetry, art and music. (which I very much use religiously)
--
the amish ban on music even singing hymns while working or just recratively playing a piano, harp of flute non needing electricity.. and also banning me from playing a mechanical record of christian music...

and they don't exactly allow converts anyway (basicly I would remain an outsider and never be able to do my job as teacher or churchleader in their community despite having studied pastoral worker and theology..
in fact they hate on such scolarship.. with makes their fait imho hollow.. deep theology and study is the foundation of proper calvinism

nor would they allow me to buy and read all my thick theologic and sociologic books i love so much to advance my knowledge..

I also am not as willing to cut myself off my family.. like I cannot just have my mother never hear of me again.. at least let me write them.. and take a boat or plane to visit them once a year as a good son should... nope they would not allow that..

so while at surface idealic.... I have upon reading into would have to say no.

but a year.. might be enjoyable.. there is no option for such an reverse rumspringa right now.. it either is full conversion.. or none.. but a year trialship amish.. I would like:)

I would have to discuss though what they will have me do that year.. I would not want to go work in the american normal schools.. that would not be fully living amish... I prefer than to learn a craft without having to deal with what they call "the english" at all.

I already speak german and dutch.. so their language thats related but a bit different from both.. should not be that hard for me to catch up.
