It sounded to me like the DNC was going to hold a convention and vote on the candidate internally, but Joe Biden gave Kamala his support, which made that near impossible and forced the party to back her as a candidate. Joe Biden used Kamala to torpedo the DNC's plot to put someone else in entirely. Either way, the whole thing is a disaster that could have been avoiding with a smidge of honesty and decency from the party early on to not deny voters their ability to choose.
