I don’t care for battle royale games.
I don’t care for the kitchen sink nature of the content what with all the licensed characters.
which is too bad because from what i have seen, the game does look fun.
Oh yeah that too.
Yeah... the playerbase is mostly just a lot of young and naive kids who don't know that there are other video games out there than Fortnite.
And some teens that REALLY want to become a professional esports player so that they can have the potential to win millions cause sometimes it happens.
And the adults that still play this game... well I don't know how you'll still find Fortnite enjoyable after it's been 8 years since it's release. Cause it's not like TF2 that's for sure.
Cause the game is constantly changing itself every new season to the point where it no longer has it's own identity. Just look on how many crossovers it had over the past 8 years.
Cause when there was a crossover the outfits are usually in the art style of Fortnite... and now they're just seem unfitting and become more like someone's collection of toy's that they decided to mix in to play with while making up all sorts of weird and wacky rules as they go.
I used to like this game back then as it was actually still fun at the time.
Before everyone started to build spam like a maniac high on something and people started to cheat by using external hardware.
Now the game became more of a sweat fest on who can break the game the most to win.
Which isn't fun when you're just trying to play the game and here comes that guy with every mythical and every powerup that'll give him an advantage to win any fight while can build towers in less than one second or if on zero build have perfect accuracy no recoil on their gun or just rush towards you with a shotgun because Fortnite has no mid to long range combat.
...How many kids do you think bought the Isaac Clarke skin/outfit, thought he was cool, and then decide to play any of the Dead Space games?
Cause let me tell ya. Fortnite did not do a good job on what every crossover character's origin game really is.
...Cause if you play Dead Space you know for a fact that you'll act like a scared crazed schizophrenic if you ever seen any of the gruesome death scenes or fought Necromorphs for the first time while being scared for your life as a Kid.
That aside, sure... I also dislike Epic Games. And I think any thoughtful gamer should, honestly.
Why do you assume they "should" like it? Maybe Steam's audience is more mature because Steam has existed longer and they don't want to play cartoon games for children?
What's more weird to me than Steam gamers not liking fortnite is that you seem like you're bothered by the fact that they don't, as seems evident from this thread.
I think there's more to this than just people disliking something for being popular. If you have played games for a while, you may have noticed a general trend: a game franchise starts out niche with appeal to a core group of fans, and those early games in the franchise are loved. Then money-hungry companies decide to try and change the game to appeal to "mainstream" people. Normies. And the quality of the games in the eyes of the fans ends up suffering.
Then you have people saying "lol they just dislike it because it's popular."
And I think that's an overly simplistic and wrong view of things. People dislike the popular thing because it's often downgraded and made worse in order to appeal to the masses who lack properly refined taste in games like the core fans have.
In other words, the more popular games tend to appeal to what we might call "the lowest common denominator" of gamers.
Here we go, ask a question online about a video game and someone's going to say "you're mad!"
There's nothing wrong with preferring games with a more realistic art style, and there are plenty of them for me to choose from on Steam. So there is no reason Fortnite should have any appeal to me.
