The only form of online multiplayer gaming that should exist is co-op.
Instantly all games would improve. Single player game developers would no longer waste a bunch of time and resources on competitive multiplayer modes. Yearly copy/paste competitive shooters would cease to exist. Cheating would become a complete non-issue entirely since there would be no competition.
We would also get better AI driven NPC's to go up against, leading to more realistic enemy behavior, making the entire experience more immersive. No longer could developers rely on players to stand in for enemy combatants.
There is no downside whatsoever. It even eliminates most of the predatory money grabbing tactics employed by developers like Rockstar with their GTA V online scam. (Imagine if GTA V or RDR2 had no online component, and as a result they were even more polished and included 100+ hours of additional content that included expanding the map to make it even bigger)
What's the point? The military is extremely expensive, and the US really doesn't need a bigger one.
In some countries, mandatory civil/military service for 1-2 years might make sense. But even then you'd risk disrupting the whole labor market.
I'm still dumbstruck theres people that believe if was an attempted coup. I was even following politics and trump at the time. I watched it live streamed, in real time. I saw what he said, before the media got its editors on the job.
Every time someone brings it up as an insurrection my faith in their credibility on anything is shattered. You have more credibility if you believe the earth is flat.
I imagine something more like the CCC. We could use them for labor and support of the infrastructure. They dont want to work or participate in society anyway, so no big disruption. We need to produce more than noodle armed pansies with anime addictions and social media brains.
