Yeah we still want our positions as police but none of the responsibility.

Japan hates foreigners living in their country, you'll never be fully accepted

Cops would just end up arresting the person trying to shoplift. Good way of losing your job, having to go to court on assault charges, meanwhile the other person gets off without any charge.

We need to go back to public shaming for these types of crimes.

I saw a guy shoplift a bunch of steaks from to grocery store and I followed him and shamed him and called him names as he ran away with his head hung in shame.

I assume 999 is an emergency number? And not to defend criminals but shoplifting isn’t an emergency. Of course you can still report it but 9 times out of 10 police won’t do much about it because it would be more trouble than it’s worth.

Let me give you an example. In a hypothetical scenario, let’s say I stole a bag of Hot Cheetos. I just walked in, grabbed it, and walked out. Of course the camera caught me doing it. But if the police wanted to do something about it then they would have to get a warrant for my arrest, drive to my house, arrest me, drive me to the police station, have me booked, go to court because of Hot Cheetos. It’s too much effort over a bag of snacks.

Disclaimer: I’m not defending criminals. All I am saying is police rather allocate their resources on something else.

They do pay their taxes under current tax law. If you think tax law needs reform, that's on you to vote for reform in your democracy.

So police is just another mafia.
Paying tax for' protection' and still have to protect themselves anyway.

Even as an employee it’s not my job to stop a shoplifter. At best I can say “Hey, you can’t do that.” But if they keep doing it then you should just let it go. I’m not gonna risk my safety over something that cost 10 dollars. And stores even train employees to not fight a shoplifter.

Nope! I sure as hell wouldn't!
