Ban wave again
I see banned, banned, banned etc. If Valve cannot maintain a good discussion climate why not ban sensitive subjects again?

It would be nice to have separate sections for politics. I've seen many forums before and that always seemed to keep huge arguments from flooding over to general chats and clogging up otherwise regular discussions. It's weird seeing "favorite pizza topping?" next to "US Politics Happening NOW!!!".

steam moderation is just terrible...

I have been a moderator in fora.

======================
and a good moderator actively reads every post as it happens.. in his segment of the forum.
-
for any action taken more than 1 minute after the post have been made is irrelevant.. and should not even been allowed
-

when it is time to take action.. you can just type ok buys enough fun.. now behave again.. aka you manage it how you manage a classroom of teens..

you never ban entire posts.. but you do often do short -snip- cutting out lines of posts you not likes than type in red below them the same in better words.

that teaches the users how they should have said what they said and does not remove their entire post..

you alsso are quick to take action.. with your 2 most used tools a kick and a 5 minute ban..
that basicly is the slap on the wrist... you never ever use long bans for constructive users that ust may be a bit to ethousiast.. you know the difference between a good user.. and a troll...
in worst case if somebody clearly is just to hotheaded now.. you give them a 1 hour timeout...

as a mod I rarely gave bans of more than 1 hour.. and very rarely even more than 5 minutes.. serves no purpose.. every ban of 1 day or more my supervisor would look into and we would be judged and fired if we used the banhammer to often.. after all your task is to keep order.. not to spoil fun..
To think there are people who actually defend moderation here. The brigade will probably be here soon and mass report everything in sight.

as opposed to this above... steam moderation :

========
does not read anything.. only responds to what gets reported you can post anything filth as long as no users report it nothing will be done with it....

does not read the posts that are reported either basicly only scans for nono words.. if any are found than the lazy callcenter employee will select 1 of 4 preselected reasons for the ban.. and activates it

they will not look for context.. not select an apropiate punishment.. if reported + nonoword = ban.. duration is by ban history which for most is the maximum of 1 month which you get on your 7t offense and everyone after...
(which basicly every accound older than 2 years reached).

not having the punishment bear any relation to whats needed to keep order.. not have any line of whats allowed to be said or not (for basicly everything is bannable.. and the only rule is don't annoy other users so much they report you)
-> which basicly means steam actively promotes troll reporting and canculcure snowflakes.

meanwhile the punishment for false reporting can be circumvented with burneraccounts... as can posting horrible content by trolls and actual malpractitioners...

while actual real accounts and constructive users who may have 1 flag every 100 posts.. get 1 month bans for very minor infractions all the time

yes it annoying when page 1 of the forum is just

Trump did x

Trump is x

Trump is going to..

I can testify even under the old steam moderators (the volenteers) while they too sucked tits.. I only ever got 1.2 months worth of bans.. in 8 years...

they even entrusted me that while I like to discuss controversial topics (hence the many reports) I generally know how to stay on the right side and when I cross it only mildly hence why a small ban or warning is apropiate..

meanwhile since this canculculure callcenter moderation has been in place.. I counted and did reiceve 22 month long bans/// over less than 2 years time..

being on average less than 5 days without ban.. before getting another month ban.
do I misbehave so much? nope... I make in those 5 days on average 100+ posts... and 1 is flagged usually borderline (like old mods said they would not have banned for it).. usually for the prone to discussion reason.. or racism (the two they love to select)

would it be correct to get 1 in 100 posts a slap on the wrist? perhaps.. though even the old mods say.. we likely would have done nothing or only removed the post with a warning..

but those online callcenter employees have like 3 seconds to do 1 report... they don't have time to read entire posts.. look for context for a users behavior.. nor do they get to select a punishment fitting the crime...

its just... chew with open mouth? 1 month ban..
look funny? 1 month ban

oh new account
murder. and rape : warning..

it be better if there was NO moderation at all on steam at this point.. better have the trolls and scammers run wild.. than this.

Oh yeah that is a huge issue here. A lot of posts are just for clown farming and people here seem way too eager to engage and hand out free points and without mods to properly moderate this behavior it's really made the quality of these forums go downhill. A new hit game comes out and the forum for it is just full to the brim with troll posts looking to agitate people. A lot of game devs won't even look at the forums here. Like there is fun trolling and messing around and then there is just being an ass and trying to get people to fight.

yeah and if say a student does something in my class they are not allowed.. say they eat in class...
even if they do it the 10000 time.. I will just tell them to put it away and if they are notorius for it.. I might make them toss it away.. or force them to share with the class....

you don't suspend a student for something like that...

and well if them in angry maybe curse at me... as teacher... ofcourse thats not allowed.. but again you are not using 1 punishment for alll...

like I can speed with a car a million time.. I still only get a fine...

but steam is like.. speeding 7 time = life in prison
murder without previous misdemenior = warning..

I am not saying I may never post something here that may cross the line.. or that I at least could have posted in a less offensive way..
but is that reason to slap 1 month long bans? does that make the forum better?
no it does not.
basicly all you turn the forum in is the realm of canculculture loving snowflakes and trolls with burneraccounts...

I'd rather the forums be filled with all these "Are we living in a simulation/Matrix!? o_O" threads over the massive amount of political ones any day. I try my best not to engage with them because I'm tired of them being at the forefront of the forums 24/7.
for well it is obvious what happens...

---trolls create burneraccounts and create controversial bait topics
-actual real users respond serious.. some other trolls do too
**troll account reports every respond... just every one.. wide neth.

troll account will eventually get banned for both posting these posts and the mass reporting...
but before they do they have gotten many real users 1 month bans for their post were reported and contained nono words.

and than there are the snowflakes that basicly report anything that they not like...

like I start a post with racism is a good thing.. and continue for a whole page nuancing.. what I mean by that and that is discrimiantion or the thinking less of the other thats is the issue not the recognising that we are different and are more comfortable amongst people like us.

but people not read that.. there are those who hate me as a person and actively hunt my posts for anything to report... there are many idiots who just read that first line and click report...
and than there are trolls who see that and like to see the world burn.. and clock report..

and than you get banned another month...

is it unwise to start a post with such a sentice.. perhaps.. but had moderation done any efford looking for context they found it was not a banworthy post..

I actually aked in the many bans moderation can you please show me the exact sentence in my a4 format post that was crossing the line...
and also type it in a way that would not get me banned..

they NEVER responded to that they avoid that like the plague.. for they know there IS no way to say things better.. it is not what you say..

99.999% of posts is reason to ban.. all that matters is does it get reported.. and does it flag nono words.

I even suspect most those in that callcenter (which I pinged don't ask how lets say i do have skills) and found it was located in either pakistan or iraq... it is unlikely their only callcenter... but it does confirm they are unlikely to speak english

Which topic?
so basicly you have a callcenter.. where non english speaking person is paid absolute minimumwage.. with perhaps a very small bonus if they make their target of "handling 2000 reports in an hour" or some other unrealisticly high number target as callcenters like to set.
and they get a paycut if less than 600 reports handled per hour... and fired if that happens 3 times.

than they get automaticly by the system a post... a list of nono words (translated in their language) and a number of reports on this post.

they can scholl below and read actually the post... but that takes time.. they aint got time for that.

they can also type an actual responce or reason for ban.. but again takes time.. don't do that.

instead they just look how many reports are there.
if 1 than no ban.. if 2 or more than proceed
are there nono words (look in ai generated list that marks them red)
if yes.. than ban.. if no than no ban
--
next select ban reason.. 4 premade reasons that are just a checkmark.. and below it the option to type a custom comment they wing it and always just pick one that vaguely matches the nono words.
...

so all they do is yes yes, select a circle.. enter.
thats all the time they take to ban you a month

(when they respond to a comment on a ban.. aka a discussion.. the presume it is a complain.. so they will just look nonowords? yes.. select default responce "I have revieuwed your ban and found it was applied correctly)

if you report to that
-they select the 2d premade option..

never ever will they even take the time to read your actual comment... or type a handmade comment to it.
