Did you make sure they weren't used for nefarious reasons first? Some people empty their feelings into them ...

dirty socks are stinky and carries the whole bacteria on it, why would anyone ever finds that interesting

I only use old and worn socks for that which would otherwise be thrown away due to holes or stains.
