Yes, I was practicing since the 80s as a child.
I was very good at it and could vary the pattern mid air.

- do not try this, I would train constantly doing it just to pass the time from when Aliens first came out. I do not even understand how my reflexes work so trust me on the sun-cream.

Never tried it with a knife, used to do something similar with a sharp pencil in grade school until the teacher made people stop it after a couple kids stabbed themselves.

My father taught a little safer knife game where you would throw a knife by each others feet, if it was able to stick in the ground your opponent would have put their foot there, eventually you or the other person would no longer be able to stretch any farther and would lose the game. If you ever they that game, I'd recommend screwdrivers instead of knives, they can cause less damage, and you will not have to sharpen them after playing the game.
