the anti-Steam conspiracy
its amazing so many people think Steam's alleged "monopoly" is a problem but...

*the Microsoft Windows OS monopoly is ok
*the Apple/Google phone duopoly is ok
*the Playstation/Xbox console duopoly is ok
*Steam taking 30% is bad but xbox/playstation/apple taking 30% is ok (even though Steam doesn't even take 30% anymore)
*having all social media and communication networks controlled by corporations under Blackrock's influence is ok

The real reason they are targeting Steam is because Steam supports open platforms, is giving consumers new OS choices to free them from Windows spyware, lets people mod games (content not controlled by corporations), gives people forums and review systems to express opinions outside the control of corporations...and some people in power don't like that:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJOWhoeZh-I&

They want controlled platforms like consoles dominated by corporations that are controlled by Blackrock so they can control what users read and say on the internet. They don't like that people on the internet get exposed to

This corporate/government effort to target Steam is part of the broader effort you're seeing globally to censor the internet, take away internet anonymity (to create a "chilling effect" on speech), etc, including what is going on with recent UK efforts to destroy online anonymity. Much like how Nikki Haley (probably acting at the request of wealthy donors) wanted to require everyone's IDs to use social media.

If they can't censor you, they want to ID you so they can tie your real-world ID to your internet speech and then people in power can look for ways to punish people who speaking truth to power on the internet.

Why? 100% guaranteed they don't want you criticizing their foreign policy, as Nikki Haley says here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9qMMN5tk8R0

But they will claim it's because of "hate speech," or "the children" or whatever similar excuse they come up with next.

It's not about the isolated opinions of an angry senator, it's about the donor networks of wealthy people and corporations that senator relies on to fund their election campaigns.

Which Valve still ignored.

Duopolies aren't monopolies and offer some degree of competition, plus you're discounting Nintendo in the console race. And who says the Microsoft monopoly on the desktop O.S. market is okay? People have been complaining about Microsoft since the 1990s.

And if you're complaining about duopolies, what about A.M.D./Intel, or Nvidia and A.M.D.?

Yeah some vocal consumer advocates complained about it, but there wasn't movement from government/corporations to do much about it like there is with Steam.

Maybe bad for the public interest to some extent, but not as concerning because AMD/NVIDIA/Intel aren't trying to police what people read or say on the internet.
