Gaming becoming mainstream and shareholders are what ruined games
Due to shareholders, AAA studios can no longer take risks and innovate, they stick to mediocrity and bare minimum effort. It's also because of them that games are so out of touch with audiences, they aren't developed for gamers, they are developed for shareholders.

Due to mainstream, AAA studios can get away with putting out slops. When you're a casual player who's standards are non existent, a mediocre game would seem like a godsend to you.

Those two combined are the reasons we have 14 Assassin's Creed games all copying trends while putting the bare minimum effort with garbage animation, voice acting, story telling, writing, and repetitive gameplay.

the video games industry just grew too fast for its own good, attracting investment companies who treated it no different than they would treat, for example the petrochemicals industry. Games became products, produced to generate return on investment, and we were all okay with this for a while because we got bigger budget games with shiny graphics and hours of content, bigger was better, until we realised that there was no heart and soul left, just a product to be consumed.

And that's damn consoles' fault.

What do you ecpect from an industry that has customers who fully fell for Early Access, Pre-Order, 1st -week DLCs and Bugfests for 90 bucks???

Gamers have multiple times proven to be gullible sheep and the industry thrives on that.

Doesn't make the industry more likeable, right?
