Agree or disagree #84242
Video games should block user entered names that could be offensive, including games that are single player.

For example Jim entered a bad name for his pokemon. That name was not allowed.

agree
Who decides what "could be offensive"?
Almost any name at all could offend someone.
Even just numbers, I'm sure someone is offended by "42069".
only if its multiplayer otherwise no.

Yo. This guy nailed it. "Offensive" is subjective and only decided by the values of the members of a specific group. That will never work,

Plus, I want to keep my handle "Nuhtsachz"
No, I want my daily dose of Mike Hunt, Hugh Jass, Ben Dover, Mike Hawk and Moe Lester.

That reminds me of the Hugh Mungus guy who was harassed by a radical feminist because of his dad joke. I wonder what happened to her.

This reminds me of when Iron Mouse played MiSide. It wouldn't let her use some swear word for her character so she named it something like Kanye penday-ho instead or something which is apparently swears from non-English languages and actually more vulgar than what she was originally going to try which iirc was something like peepee ass or something.

There are criminal federal laws about how acting presidents are represented so maybe just prevent the name of the current president and any alternate spellings you can come up with in order to reduce legal liability there but otherwise, just let people do whatever they want.

There are very clever people like Iron Mouse which will always find a way around it and will just use something 10 times as vulgar if you don't let them use some stupid potty name.
...which by the way, I'm favor of such rebellion.
Offensiveness isnt an universal constant its entirely relative. What offends you might not offend someone else and vice versa. Language is powerful but its also flexible. The meaning lives in how its used.
