What's a good way to identify a plant?
Google is more worthless than it has ever been.

I found it, its a winged sumac.
Depends why you need to identify it. In a survival situation, the universal edibility test is tried and true:

  • Split it into its parts - roots, stems, leaves, etc
  • Rub each part on a different patch of skin and wait to see if any get irritated
  • Boil anything that passes skin test and taste without swallowing for at least 15 minutes
  • Spit and wash if anything tastes bad or oozes a milky substance, or if swelling/itching occurs
  • Swallow a tiny portion of anything that passes all of the above and wait a couple hours before trying more
  • Anything that passes all of the above *probably* won't kill you :steamhappy:

Granted, none of this will inform you of what its 'name' is, but that's not important in the context
