I play the actual game every now and then, but I mainly collect.

I collect Pokémon cards as a hobby. Truth be told I never learned how to play the card game. Haha.

I tried Pokemon TCG pocket which was released last month on mobile phones and I had mixed feelings. The game will probably become more diverse when more different sets of cards and game modes appear, but for now everything is too simple. There are only a few decks in the top and they all abuse the ability to generate free energy, the player who gains mana or action points faster than the other usually wins the game. Too many mechanics based on randomness and luck, a simple coin toss can decide the outcome of a match. There are various elements here, like in the original Pokemon, fire, water, electricity, but in practice there is no difference between them except for the art. Of course elements have weaknesses that can enhance your attack against the enemy Pokemon, but you can never replace your monster to exploit this, it all comes down to rock paper scissors randomness.

i didnt get into the pokemon cardgame i thought MTG and duel monsters was fun enough, so didnt really keep looking.

i think it'd be cool for collecting though

I used to collect them but it was for the wrong reasons so I stopped
