They would condense into just water.

We would probably lose them. Or at least lose the ability to play them.

Dust in the wind.

So I can make 100000000000 copies and sell them?

No because given how the gaming community has always been about gaming and freedom of information, someone will most likely give it out for free. Why would someone buy it from you when they can get it somewhere else for free?
Okay okay.....

Depends on the game. For Sega and Capcom, they would be bricked, completely, since they need periodic connection to steams account services to even run, less time if you ever shut steam down or restart your computer. For those that are wise enough to not use stemworks drm(which is sadly a minority) then you'll be fine the games run without steam/

For me, nothing, I laugh in Polish i.e Goglan so I dont have this problem.

Some people actually do that. I guess they aren't much tech savvy.

Better technical support, easier access to the general game community, ease of network managment for multiplayer systems, internet mod support for the software. There's lots of reasons. Assuming the place isnt doing things like requiring logins that need to log photo copies of government I.D thus making the service unsafe(yes, some places are doing that)

Do you think Steam does that?

Mods yes, the rest, not even a little bit. But individual companies do the non-mod stuff.

Webtoons for one, wanna read the glorious masterpiece that is Bastard? Login with a full age verification to even look at the comments. I have to pirate a few of the manwa there now because of it. Thankfully Jungle Juice and Tower of God are uneffected but jesus. Hell, my local bookstore did it for a while, and is still doing it for anything used in education material. Flashing an I.D. isnt enough they want a full scan.

The game maker has to provide the support for mods. Steam is just a store.
