It really rustles my jimmies when games have a amazing story but bad gameplay.
it is reason why i dislike sport game and fighting game and majority race game
Dishonored series was like this for me. Resident Evil 2 Remake sorta. Witcher 2 and 3 in ways.
Sometimes though, the world feels so large that it becomes less cohesive and tends to feel overwhelming and a bit flat due to the repeated attempts to pull you into yet another environment. Witcher 3 was like that in ways.
Dishonored is probably the greatest example I have played. Story, level design, the feeling of a living environment around me with a story to tell.
Ive eyeballed games like Last of Us for this type of atmosphere, but Im immediately turned off by any sort of gender ideologies and such. So, I never played it. The same goes for BG3.
Then graphics
Good OST is nice but not essential, as long as it’s not whatever the ♥♥♥♥ Yoshis Crafted World is supposed to be

- Strategic or mechanical depth
- Strong, immersive atmosphere
I just need one of these three elements.
I think it sounds pretty good, can't say the same for the New Island ost though
- Moving your character around should feel good.
- The sounds and musics should feel good.
- The visuals should feel good.
- My ability to be creative in the game should feel good too.
Any form of art is all about conveying emotions, I play video games to feel good, one way or another. Even the souls-like games give me a way to feel good, by forcing me to adapt, improve myself and be proud of the final result. For me, no matter what game it is and what's its story, it has to feel good, it's all about that imo.
And who of "us" are you?
What are you looking for?
- At least 1 to 1 cost/time ratio. For every dollar I spend, I'd ideally want an hour of gamplay or more. That is game dependent, and content that is filler or isn't engaging doesn't cut it.
- Gameplay can be weaker if story is better and vice versa. There is a balance.
- Gameplay that does something unique or gameplay that does what other games do but does it to a high level.
- Logic in plot beats and game mechanics. I don't care if the inclusion of an unkillable enemy in survival horror is a standard. I judge things on a per game basis, and something like that needs to be justified per game.
- Anticipated length/cost: The longer a game is, the more epic the story, the more I need to psyche myself up to start it. Typically these games cost more with engagement or quality at a high level. However, I need to be mentally prepared to allow myself to engage with something like that, and to have the time to commit to something incredibly long to get the most out of it. The inverse is also true. Sometimes I buy a game I end up sinking 50+ hours into that was incredibly cheap, but doesn't have the demand of attention, being something that can be enjoyed in short bursts.
