TF2, good hardware?
my server is running on an old Dell PowerEdge 1950, with CentOS 7 Linux. Intel Xeon CPU 5150 @ 2.66GHz, 4 cores, 4GB ram.
is this sufficient hardware?
unfortunately, for internet, i have only a slow DSL, with about 0.75MB upload (7MB download). as this is slow, i have my server limited to 10 players, in order to keep the connection usable.

what i am getting at, is i am thinking of moving my server over to a Dell PowerEdge R710, at some point. that server has the following specs: Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU X5670 @ 2.93GHz (24 cores), with 64GB ram. OS will be CentOS 7 Linux.
I am wondering if there would be any advantage to the move being done sooner, or whenever i get around to it. i don't seem to get many players, likely due to my internet connection, but i the better server would improve the game play quality, i may push the upgrade sooner.

i weighed the options, and i will migrate to the newer Dell PowerEdge R710. i checked the power usage between the two, and found the larger R710 to interestingly draw less power (more likely just more efficient).
not having any data to draw from, i assume it will also run the TF2 server more efficiently, despite my internet connection, though the internet connection will still limit max users connected. the migration will be slow, as i am just now downloading the latest version of CentOS Linux (8.1, apparently), and may have things back in order by the weekend, depending on work.
after thinking it over, it quickly became a no-brainer decision, as i will be moving my website over as well. (2TB of storage, vs about 5.5TB of RAID storage)

Problem will most likely be your connection, not only because it supports only limited players, but mostly because it probably has a high ping associated with it, which won't be better with a new server. But still the move is wise, I've dumped my old Dell PE 1950 long time ago due to the sheer amount of power it wastes. Now I'm on a selfmade server on customer AMD hardware, which draws about 160W and idles most of the time despite running a pretty big minecraft server, firewall and other stuff. Still searching for ways to really max it out.
