How Much Upload per Player?
Hello! I plan on hosting a community on my home network, the last week I've been planning how to do it safely. But I just thought of something, how many players can I fit onto my network for a GMod server and CS:GO server?

I have a 100mbps uplink and down connection. I found a post that gave calculations on how many players you should be able to fit on your server and I don't know how accurate it is. Most of my GMod servers will be 66 tick (some 32) and my CS:GO servers will range from 102-128 tick.

Here's the sheet I found, is this accurate?

Upload Speed (Kbps) Player Limit
240 6
320 8
400 10
480 12
560 14
640 16
720 18
800 20
880 22
960 24
1120 28
1280 32
1440 36
1600 40

These values are calculated with the following formula: (5,000 * player number * 8) / 1,000

Those values are a little low, i believe its mbps not kbps..
For example, an 8 slot server will lag like hell with only 320kbps..

According to cs:go developer page (cs:go cvars), default rate value is 80000 bytes/s = 78,125Kb/s per player
10 players can reach 781,25Kb/s, its almost 6,2mbps
40 players slot can reach 3,125Mb/s, will consume close to 25mbps

Those values were very low, I found out around the amount of players I should be getting. This guy had 60 players on his server and said he consumes 10mbps.

"10 players can reach 781,25Kb/s, its almost 6,2mbps
40 players slot can reach 3,125Mb/s, will consume close to 25mbps"

Are you saying 3.125mbps = 25 mbps btw?

3,125 mega bytes per second = 25 mega bits per second.. its just math.
8 bits = 1 byte.
Mb/s = mega byte per second
mbps = mega bits per second
Same for Kb/s and kbps.

You put Mb/s which is megabits, the big B is for bytes. But thanks for the help!

You are right.. my bad..
kB is kilo byte..
MB = mega byte, and so on..

All good, many people make that mistake. I thought the same exact thing, I started to get more into networking and now I wonder why I thought Mb/s = Megabytes too.

It's a common trait :p

Yes, it does not supposed to be..

Some companies uses mpbs for bits and mb/s for bytes.

That might explain confusion, I noticed a lot of businesses have very bad security practices too. Such as port forwarding their security cameras and keeping the username & pass default.

It's actually really surprising, I guess they can't afford a network admin to fix everything up for them.
