Why do they break things? need help!
I have tried every tip, from creating a dummy mod to opening every gcf file i can find from this installation and an old installation on another drive.

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Modifying_Source_GameUI
So in there is says create a mod and th file i need will be in
"SteamApps\SourceMods\YourMod\Resource\SourceScheme.res" in there it's named ClientScheme.res not SourceScheme.res...

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Failed_to_load_the_default_scheme_file
"Get SourceScheme.res from one of the GCF files or create a mod."

SO, none of this works, there wasn't a folder namer resource in any of the sdk bins, so i made the folder and left clientschem.res and made a copy of the named sourceschem.res. i took that folder resource/clientschem.res+sourceschem.res and copied it to each sdk bin...

needless to say, no matter what i do, i open hammer with "source engine MP -> counter strike source" hammer opens and with or without the sourceschem.res files the view panes will not zoom or let be create a simple block/brush...

I was upset when they made it so you couldn't work in sourcesdk when you lose your internet connection, it's bee a year since i've even tried and it worked a year ago to mess around with converting maps in hopes to import into portal 2.

Valve keeps breaking good things! i was trying to get the steam app into offline mod and get something started in hammer because i know I'm going to have t let my internet service go for a month or 2 to catch up on other stuff... but Valve just hates us to death!

maybe it's the (x86) in the "Program Files (x86)" file path that steam/sdk/hammer can't handle, idk... my other installation from my last OS install was in 32bit, maybe it's me trying again in 64bit mode... either way I've even done the "-32bit -engine ep1" in the launcher options...

I've done it all, and i either must be looking at the wrong stuff or valve has broke hammer real good!!! does anyone have hammer working with these system specs? if so how?

I uninstalled sourcesdk and local content, which did leave the sdk and cntent folder so i renamed them and reinstalled sourcesdk, started it up and it copied the files it needed for the content folder.... NO CHANGE!!!! yay me...

FUNNY!!! So i was trying to get it to work... and it's broke worse now lol... so i go in and set every instance of hammer.exe i find to run in windows xp compatibility mode and with admin rights... now the Source SDK launcher will NOT let me select Counter Strike: Source, only Team Fortress 2 and Day of Defeat: Source, but will NOT let me select CC:S... I set all of them to windows xp comparability and admin mode and it will not let me start hammer for CC:S....

I changed them all back... nothing... x.x maybe Valve is saying CC:S and hammer is out dated and we should stop trying! but even so, I would want them to make CC:S and hammer work without needing steam...

err.... talking to myself...

All right!!!! i did miss taking comparability mode off of one if the hammer.exe files and now they are all just in admin mode even steam and the sdk launcher and hammer loaded up and when i told it to start a new map it did and i have a working grid and can use it again...

So if it helps anyone else... Set Steam, SourceSDK, and Hammer to run in administrator mode on Windows Vista Ultimate Edition 64-bit SP2 (Build 6002), I think outside of administrator mode hammer can't read/write the path properly idk, but it works now!!

thanks!!! ^^

still get an out of memory error and crash when i load one of my old maps i built >:( 4gigs and out of memory... does hammer have a limit to how much memory it can use that can be raised with a launch parameter?

The update used a lot of memory. Is like a copy of the game. If you were little short of memory you now have much less. Is due to new format of vpk package of maps and such. I heard it used up approx 10 gigs of ram. We are all looking for the correct config. Hang in there.

We have just made a topic on GitHub. You may of heard of this site, but the source of it actually came from the word of Valve - asking us to post all bug reports there.

We just posted this: https://github.com/ValveSoftware/Source-1-Games/issues/287 Which informed them of why source sdk is not working in as detailed a way possible.

Please, please, please reply to the topic to keep it bumped up to the top, and type all your (positive, well spelt and gramatically correct) feedback there - so that they are more likely to read it.

Dont be afraid to make your own topics too - signing up on that site is simple - and seeing as valve said about it https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7388-QPFN-2491, its definatly worth a shot.

Posting things like this is bound to be best:
problem >
how you caused the problem >
what its stopping you from doing >
how you think they could fix it >
how much you really like them and hope they read this >

God speed words.

We are trying to get some attention. Be polite don't ♥♥♥♥ off and just ask for a fix.

Hi ?,
We're going to fix the SDK. We've no intention of discontinuing it.
We should have most of the problems related to SteamPipe fixed in the next week or so.
Please bear with us.
Thanks for your patience,
?

This is a real response. We all just need to be patient. But at least we have a response.
I am so happy that a request can still be heard.
Thank you so much everyone. A special thank you to Jack181
