Steam won't run after Catalina
I have a MacBook Pro from mid 2014.

When I try to run steam it just bobs once, and then nothing happens.

I have tried to reinstall steam, but the same thing happens.
I have now checked the Steam_osx.
I don't know if it's any help, but it provides me with this message:

found breakpad via in process memory: '/Applications/Steam.app/Contents/Frameworks/Breakpad.framework/Versions/A/Resources'
Installing breakpad crash handler
exec failed: 'Bad CPU type in executable'

I hope someone can help me.

I have exactly the same issue. I tried re-installing multiple times, and also launched the steam_osx, without success. Did you find any fix?

I reinstalled it from the Steam site and it works fine. Most of my games don't though. Apple dropped 32 bit support, and not many games I play have 64 bit available.

I have the same problem. Steam bobs once but no activity. I've reinstalled three times!

Same problem, seems to have happened to a few people with no solutions?

It works :D

This helped reinstall Steam!
Unfortunately, OpenRCT2 still won't open :(

Yeah, same thing here. I've deleted it and reinstalled it several times, including the new 62-bit version, but it just blinks when I double-click and then does nothing.
Thanks, Steam!

I just fixed mine by going into Terminal and entering:

rm -r ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam/Steam.AppBundle

This deletes some files related to the old 32 bit version. Afterwards, steam reinstalls new files and then it works. Fixed my issue after several months of it refusing to open.

Alternatively, for cases different from my own and perhaps different from this thread, I've heard to go into Terminal and enter:

sudo xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Applications/Steam.app

Anyone let me know if any of these things work for you. I think Steam should fix the first problem with the App. No reason to have to do this manually but at least it's something.

The first command worked for me! Thank you!!
