I tried typing this in safari and it said "There is no application set to open the URL steam://flushconfig." Which application do I have to download?

Windows XP/Vista/7/8

Completely exit the Steam client.
Open the run dialogue by pressing windows key + r (you can also navigate here from the start menu by typing run).
Type steam://flushconfig then press enter. (If asked to allow this website to open a program, please click Allow or OK).
Restart your computer.
Now, launch Steam directly from the installation folder, not from a pre-existing shortcut (~C:\program files (x86)\Steam).
The Steam application will either appear as Steam or Steam.exe depending on whether your settings show file extensions.
Mac OSX

Completely exit the Steam client.
Open Safari and type steam://flushconfig then press enter
Restart your computer.
Launch Steam and re-test the issue.

It's what they suggested to do
when i open safari and type that the msg comes up "there is no application...." (see original post)
would doing this delete any important files, like games, and game files?
Doing this just seems to land me in the google search for "steam://flushconfig".

How do I do this on Chrome?
You don't use it in a web browser.

Mac OSX
  • Completely exit the Steam client.
  • Open the Network window by pressing Command + K
  • Type steam://flushconfig then press enter.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Launch Steam and re-test the issue.
i type it in and it said "URLs with the type “steam:” are not supported."

Steam still wont work
I already tried this and what TombRaiser said was correct. You don't type it in the browser but you do what he pasted right there.

I already tried this myself as I am having issues since this recent update as well and it didn't do much in helping anything either. It got me into the game for a few then crashed all over again.
