macOS game refuses to launch
I have a game that is listed as compatible with macOS but doesn't run whenever I try to launch it through Steam. Before the March 10th client update, Steam would give me a popup that said "32-bit applications are no longer supported in macOS 10.15 or above." even though the store listing for this game listed a 64-bit processor as a system requirement.

After the update, whenever I click "Play" Steam runs the game for a second then the game suddenly quits with no error warnings or additional popups. It never shows up in the dock or in the Activity Monitor.

The game I'm troubleshooting is Yeah Jam Fury: U Me Everybody. This is the only game I have that doesn't work, I made sure to download other games to test.

I am using a 2017 iMac with
  • a 2.3 GHz Dual-Core Intel Core i5
  • 8 GB RAM
  • macOS 13.7.5

Listing a 64-bit processor doesn't necessarily mean the game is not 32-bit.

Keep in mind that the system requirements are just input fields devs can put whatever they want.

I tested the .app for the game itself and that ran fine, that and the incompatibility popup isn't showing up anymore with the client update. Currently, I just can't get Steam to launch the game.

The game is new and 64-bit but is not a native Apple Silicon port. No idea why Steam doesn't launch it. Try to add the app as a non-Steam game and see if it can launch it. https://steamdb.info/app/633930/info/

Adding the game to my library didn't work. All it did was try to launch the version already in my library.

Update: I think I know why I can't launch this game! I tried opening the launcher for the game and got the error "bad CPU type in executable" in the Terminal. At first I thought this meant something was wrong with my iMac, but it turns out this error only occurs when executing a 32-bit file on a 64-bit computer through the Terminal, or something along those lines.

Since I'm still able to open the game on its own just fine, I came to the conclusion that this game's launcher is 32-bit while the rest of the game is 64-bit for some reason (which would probably explain the compatibility error popup from before). I'm not sure what to do with this info though, as I haven't been able to find a solution through searching. Is this something I would need to contact the game's developer to fix?

At least you can launch it and play. Contact the developer.

I managed to report it to the developer, and now the bug has been fixed! Thanks to everyone for helping me figure it out, this issue's been plaguing me for two months.
