Difficulty installing Steam on Mac
Hi all. I've seen other people having this problem in other threads, but the fixes people have posted haven't worked for me. I downloaded the steam installer and dragged it to applications, then opened it. When I open it, I get the bouncing icon in my dock for a moment, then it shows the 'searching for updates' bar which fills immediately and then closes. The icon then goes away, then comes back and bounces for another second before going away again. Steam does not launch.

If I try to open Steam again after that sequence, I receive an error that says that Steam needs to be online to update and I should check my network connection. I have reset my DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, and I have connected to my phone as a hotspot, neither of which resolved this issue.

I have completely deleted Steam, including the files in my User/Library folder, and re-attempted install, with no success.

The computer I'm trying to install it on is a mid-2010 MacBook Pro running macOS Sierra, 10.12.6. If anyone can help I'd greatly appreciate it.

So, shortly after posting this, I found an answer. Leaving it here in case anyone else has need of it in the future.
