Steam downloads stuck on "0 bytes / 0 bytes" (mac)
Downloads remain stuck at 0 no matter what

Cleared download cache, changed region, reset connection. Nothing works.
Downloading to an APFS volume on external SSD
2019 mac, running Sequioa 15.5

Any help would be appreciated

Hey, try running Steam in Rosetta mode if you're on an M1/M2 Mac that sometimes helps with weird download issues. Also, make sure Steam has full disk access (check System Settings > Privacy & Security). If it's still stuck, try moving the library to internal storage just to test if the external drive’s the issue.
Can confirm the full disk access, not on an M1/M2 mac

Since you're not on an M1/M2 chip, try creating a new Steam library folder on your external drive and setting it as default. Also double check the SSD format is fully compatible (like APFS and not case sensitive). Sometimes Steam gets weird with permissions or volume formatting.
Macs based intel support until MacOS 15. Starting macos 16 support only Apple silicon on steam, For Apple silicon m1 or later can work on setting system
