What Happens if Steam SHUTS DOWN?!!
Hi Guys, I'm pretty new here with a Couple of Questions.
I heard of Steam for while and I honestly love the service but I have a couple of questions that maybe you may have the answer for them, Counting that it doesn't bug you too much to answer to my silliness

Look I owe a couple of games and wanting to buy way, way more but I've been thinking what would happened in these possible scenarios.

First, What happens if my Steam account gets banned or suspended for whatever reason?? Because of this I would lose all my games ??

Do you really owe your games on Steam?

And second but not least, Look I know this is very, highly remotely, unlikely case but I still have to ask.

In the impossible and incredibly remotely Scenario that Valve would Shut Down Steam service for Whatever reason.

What would happened to all of the User´s entire Library of Games, DLC and Special Content??
Would we lose it all? with no hopes of ever recovering it?

Thank in advances for Answering
Best Regards

You essentially own the licences for the games not the actual games. This means that potential steam could take the game away from you, but it unlikely that they would actually do that. Sometimes games get taken down from the store but as long as you own them, you should be ok. If steam ever did shut down I’m not sure what would happen. But as long as you have the game downloaded, the files are on your computer, and you can always run steam offline. so, you could properly still play them offline.
First of all, you wouldn't get banned unless you break the rules (spamming, phishing, scamming, etc), and if you were trade / community banned you could still play all the games you have in your library, but if you were vac banned you can't play online on the game you were banned on.

If steam shuts down, i don't know what will happen to the games in your library but i am almost certain that steam won't shut down anytime soon.

You don't have to delete and re-post this over and over.

You will only get banned from specific games if you're serious rule breaking. Just for fun I tried to cheat GTA online and all they did was a 14 day ban and reset my account. Revoking a license i'm pretty sure isn't something that ever happens, and Permanent Bans, "VAC", "Perma Bans" just aren't a common thing. Player's who cheat usually feel the punishment and don't do it again. Even in games like Rust, or Ark, if you do receive the fabled "Permanent Ban" it would only be on official servers. Nearly all online games have unofficial servers.

As for Steam shutting down; you're right, impossible, there's still offline mode, so you can play your games offline from steam, and even connect to the internet with direct connects, and some games will still play online even with steam in offline mode.

Steam is the biggest dealer of videos games in the world, Billions of Dollars a year in sales. It's kinda one of those "Too Big To Fail" situations. It also seems like in the case of a total shutdown of Steam they are even prepared for that with the whole offline mode. I used to worry about it, and insist on a tangible version, but that's just not an issue anymore. Steam versions of games are better now, they will update with technology instead of being left behind.
