I have been playing video games since I was 9 years old. Now, at 46, I still love gaming, but we’re facing a dilemma: modern games are not progressing—they’re regressing. Some of the best games were made six years ago, titles like Days Gone, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, The Last of Us, Sleeping Dogs, The Godfather, and Mad Max.

Sure, games today have better graphics, but are they truly better? The visuals are impressive, yet sometimes they still stutter on my NVIDIA 4060 with 32GB of RAM—crazy, right? And while graphics have advanced, the physics and gameplay feel as clunky as they did ten years ago. Some games manage to get this right, but then their story falls flat. If the story is good, the combat feels boring.

Then there are modders—young developers creating improvements that should have been included by the original creators. In my opinion, games have become dull, lifeless worlds with broken systems and uninspired stories, seemingly made just to take our money. Some companies introduce features like controller support, only to make it frustratingly complex. Not easy? Wow—you’re the game developer! If I sold a product and a customer asked for a basic function, would I tell them, "Sorry, that’s too difficult"? Ridiculous.

Welcome to the gaming revolution—except we're going backward instead of forward.
