Questions About Streaming Between Devices
Hello All,
I have a couple questions about streaming between two devices.

I have played many hours of Fallout 4 on my desktop. I recently got a new laptop and I'm curious; When prompted with the Fallout 4 download on my laptop one option is to install on "This Device" and another option is to "Stream from Desktop".

If I choose "This Device" I assume I'll be starting a separate new game with unrelated stats, inventory, etc.

So if I choose "Stream from Desktop" do I still need to install the game on my laptop? If I do am I picking up where I left off on my desktop? And Visa Versa?

Please help,
Thanks.

Short Answer:

If you choose "Stream from Desktop", you don’t need to install Fallout 4 on your laptop — it runs on your desktop and sends the video/audio to your laptop. You’ll be playing the exact same game with your same saves, as long as your desktop is on and Steam is running.

If you choose "Install on This Device", you’ll need to download the full game to your laptop. To continue where you left off, you must manually move your save files or use Steam Cloud (if it's enabled) to sync your progress.

To Make It Work Smoothly:

Streaming:

Make sure both devices are on the same network.

Keep your desktop on and Steam open.

Your laptop is just acting like a "screen" — no install needed.

Local Install (Play on Laptop Without Streaming):

Enable Steam Cloud on both machines (Steam > Settings > Cloud).

If not using Steam Cloud, copy the save files manually from:

C:\Users\[YourName]\Documents\My Games\Fallout4\Saves

This way, you can choose whichever method fits your needs!
