How to level up steam account?

Im not new to steam, been on this account for 9 years and had another for about 3 years before that. That said, ive never really messed around with anything other than games and was wondering how you level up your steam account? Is there a greater purpose or is it similar to a gamerscore on xbox? Also, how do you add friends? i only have a handful because i have no idea how to add people lol

How to level up your Steam account:

Complete your community badge.
Buy trading cards from the community market to craft badges.
Get the "Seasonal Badge" from the points shop.

I have alot of items from games. Is this different than trading cards? How do you obtain those? I got a few during the sale

I went about 15 years before I realised you could level up a Steam account, lol.

Some games drop trading cards. You can also buy trading cards from the community market.

they start at 0.35 but there's a extension out there to automatically level you up you just pay x amount. for my level its been about $150 and i did that in 3 waves $50 like every other week.

Some cards only cost around 0.05$.
