Does reporting a profile do anything?
I recently got matched with a cheater in my lobby at a game called Counter-Strike 2. I did report their steam profile and I am not sure if they get banned? If they get banned does my rank loss return? Or at least if I deranked would my rank be back again if they get banned?

Thanks a lot for those who will answer this. I appreciate it.

Note: Users are not VAC banned based on reports alone. Other factors are taken into account before VAC bans are issued.

Regarding profile reporting...

...it's kinda like a "faith in others" thing in a certain sense. You are putting your faith in steam to do the right thing and are trusting them to make the correct choice when they observe the user in question. Part of it, though, is accepting when they choose to make a decision that isn't the choice you wanted them to make, and you have to accept that because you asked them to choose for you when you reported it.

If you want a specific result, reporting them isn't really a solution. Steam moderation isn't a weapon you point at your enemies. They just aren't that. They're just people (or bots) that have a little more control than you and if they understand the issue and how it violates steam policy, have means to do a bit more than you could. You can ask them to do something, but it's just a request on your end - anything more than that is an unreasonable expectation.

But reporting can also be helpful for your peace of mind. "I've done my part" sort of thing.
