anyone else hate the locking of old threads?
now... i understand clearing up some discussion boards and closing old threads that are answered to hell...

but on multiple occasion ive came across steam mods closing threads because they deemed its "too old"
meanwhile its a thread from 2024?... barely a few months old... its not even that old... and now instead of continuing down the already opened discussion thread ive gotta open a WHOLE new thread and clutter up the discussion with something that literally has a thread open about it, but locked down bc the mods seems to think its "too old" to be of any use.

i guess ill keep cluttering the discussions instead of continuing down the already opened topics.

hope yall mods tone it tf down a bit. dont need to lock up absolutely EVERYTHING DOWN after a mere 6 months....
especially if ITS A TOPIC THAT CAN STILL BE DISCUSSED?!?!?!
chill tf out lmao.

You want the bumped threads to be reviewed by a human moderator who would then decide whether it’s a thread ‘answered to hell’ or a thread on a general ‘topic that can still be discussed’. But unfortunately they don’t have human moderators for us. So their bots do what bots can do.

Of course i hate that. But 1) people won’t read lengthy threads anyway 2) threads won’t change anything anyway, so they’re just for us to spend our time chatting.

so the bumped thread are just automatically locked from bots accounts?...
makes more sense... my dumbass though it was hoomans moderators. silly ol me to think of that outdated method.

whatever, we'll keep cluttering the discussions with duplicates threads just because.

Make a new thread, link to the old thread... real tough.
there's no consistency to it either. i've seen a thread that was barely 3 weeks old get locked. it makes no sense fundamentally, why clutter the forums and search results? the crying over necroing is a holdover from the message board age where people were desperate to control discourse and narratives they didn't like.

No.

It's not how you operate a forum
I don't care about it that much but I do think it's a bit dumb. They do it to "prevent confusion"?? Can't you just highlight the date or something?
I hate it when they lock an 'old' thread that a relevant answer was posted, just cause it was some time later. Sad if the guy had some questions about the answer.

It literally shows you who locked the thread. The you being a human.

I'd hate this too if it was to happen even remotely regularly. 99.9% of the time that's clearly not the case.
I'm not against it often YEARS old threads are bumped for a useless remark/comment they lock it that it doesn't spark a whole new discussion in an old thread. They rather see you'd make a new thread.

And 6 months ok, but I've seen over 10 YEARS old threads dug up ....

I agree with the useless remarks, but sometimes it's also a 5 year old thread from someone with a very rare issue that gets bumped up.

It's way easier to ask the people in a old thread: "Did you ever fix this issue?". Instead of creating a new one and just hoping someone randomly has this extremely rare issue as well.

But yeah, most of the time the people in the old thread don't even get time to answer because CONFUSION has to be PREVENTED.

It's also question not can I post, but more should I especially in old threads also don't forget that often the ts has moved on ... plays other games or even left the forums altogether

No. If something in a post or topic was really that important it can be stickied.

Personally I'd rather see those topics get deleted after a certain time otherwise. Not a big fan of laying blame on this BUT in this case that is on the forum moderators to clean up the trash.

I entered what I thought was a newer topic on the Fallout 4 boards and gave my opinion. I didn't realize it was a topic that was old that someone was keeping alive for some reason (it certainly wasn't the importance of it) and I ended up getting a message from a forum moderator about it in which I made it a point to let them know how I felt, too.

There is nothing stopping you from making a new topic about what you need to discuss. Probably better you did that.

No, that user has no clue what he is talking about. They don't use bots to lock the thread. They just get a report that the thread is old/bumped and they look at the dates and close it if it hasn't been active.

It gets confusing when people bump old threads because the advice given might not be accurate and steam doesn't have the time to research the thread and check to see if all the posts in it are relevant.

The best course of action is to make a new thread on an issue and link the old thread for reference.
