How Steam Does Business Now
It would seem if you have a Bluebird AMEX card you can no longer purchase through Steam. I have used my card for years and now it works everywhere but Steam. They do not read or understand very well because I made it clear that my bank had not declined or stopped payment on any of my attempts to purchase through Steam, but "They" Steam said they did. It all began after I purchased Sims 3 and it would not work so I tend to believe my card or me has been blacklisted. Since I got a new card and it would not work and got the same results from Steam. So I will no longer be purchasing through Steam sadly. That is my only means to purchase and it is not longer accepted by Steam.
For all it is worth I feel from the responds I received from them that is an automated responds or copy and paste at the very least. That the response was programmed into the system. Which now a days comes as no surprise since real people have been replaced by computers.

Obama, Melon Tusk were replaced? Were you replaced?
Would you prefer a response that was written ahead of time and checked to make sure it was as unambiguous and clear as possible, or would you prefer that the person who answered the same question 300 times already today have to type out a response each time manually?

I would prefer actually customer service that relates to the problem not just the same thing over and over and while I stated repeatedly that my bank/card company DID NOT do what they kept saying it did. Which I see as there is a problem on their end not mine. It is awfully strange that I can use my card at any other site and place but STEAM!
Isn't the entire payment method on the way out? Will be shut down in june next year? Might have something to do with it

A short search shows that AMEX cards, be it gift/prepaid etc. have been having issues for at least a year or more when it comes to paying on Steam.

It's clearly not just your card but AMEX in general.

Maybe because of that?

Both Bluebird and Serve prepaid card programs, which were both offered by American Express, are scheduled to be discontinued on June 3, 2026. American Express has sent out emails to Bluebird and Serve account holders to inform them of this decision.

Sadly I have not seen anything about the cards being done away with. Not surprising I suppose. But the fact that Steam is declining the card saying it is the bank and the card is working everywhere else says alot for Steam Support. Why don't they just put out something saying they are no longer taking AMEX or the Bluebird? Instead of trying to make their customer feel like they are being called a liar or lying themselves. Because I use that card everywhere else online or in stores with no problem , Steam is the only place I cannot use it currently and was using it with Steam until April of this year.

Because they likely are taking such payment methods. Support is not Valve, btw. They are a 3rd party Valve outsource support to.

Have you tried contacting others who use them and seeing if they also have an issue?

Support can only go by what their systems say, so if it says it failed or was declined, that is all they know.

There are many stages for a payment to be made. If a single step fails, then the payment fails. Valve doesn't control every single step along the way, nor do that have access to every single step. They go through a payment processor and the processor handles the often automated system for the payment.

Steam stopped taking Amex in Europe like 5 years ago

Note that Amex is notoriously pretty unpleasant to work with as a vendor, on top of having the highest fees for any credit card issuer.
