If they proceeded to give it away for free in another place, and keep it available for sale on Steam. That is the fault of the owner of the game. Not Steam. Steam is just like a supermarket, not the product.

Also I think you've made a few too many assumptions about Valve's involvement with non-Valve products being sold on Steam.
Not included, price increases since covid. Should actually be investigated again by the related authorities in this respect. Last lawsuit 2024 for violating U.S. antitrust law.
There were also adjustments such as 2023 with regard to minimum prices. And always on board, geoblockades which are also controversial.

It's more convenient for me and it financially supports the person who made the thing I like. Win-win.
Steams just a way of buying games from developers. Steam doesn't make the decisions in the prices of games. If they were, they would make all games be at a max of 20 dollars.
Valve's own suggested pricing says otherwise.
