You realise the banks, mastercard and other payment processors, could shut down Valve in a matter of hours if they tried fighting this right?
Valve is to them, what you are to Valve. A drop in the ocean. If you disappeared to another company it wouldn't matter at all, but for Valve there isn't another company. *all* the payment processors made this change. There is no alternative.
eh wrong they would lose $$$ steam could just use discover etc who wont bow to censorship. or a new company may pop up soon to take on rest and steal millions users
Many people aren't aware, but they use banks that use MC/Visa as processor and for their debit cards.
"*All* the payment processors made this change." Factually incorrect. *Most* Of biggest and most influental have.
And Valve do have the option to comply but challange - they did not challange. In most regions the also have retail gift cards. So, yes, they are impacted, but they have alternatives to how they act and how they make money - I#m not saying its easy. But you are just rolling over and beg to be seen as a good boy.
Nah. If you think Valve's income matters to these payment providers you're barking up the wrong tree.
Valve is an ant to them. They don't care if it gets squished. Other companies like Epic will take up the customers and business continues as usual.
Valve isn't big enough to matter for them.
I doubt it. Do you truly believe these processors would allow that to happen?
Makes no difference. The "big and influential" are the ones that people use. People aren't using the one only 0.0001% of the world population knows exist.
Because they know they'd lose that. It's not rocket science.
You know how gift cards are bought, right? Using these payment processors, which if Valve went against this, would not be able to be sold...
This is elementary........ Everything Valve would be gone. You wouldn't be able to buy these cards down the local mart. Most stores only accept those "Big and influential" companies....
(Most shops where i live don't accept American Express cards, and look how big that company is. Smaller ones would be non-existent)
If you REALLY thought that, and i mean truly did, you wouldn't be here at all. The fact you're even posting here shows your just playing at it.
And those that play at it, are those that "roll over and beg to be seen as a good boy".
If you really believed this, you'd log out now and never come back.
Cool. I didn't know that PPs every government bank and mint internatationally.
"Because they know they'd lose that. It's not rocket science"
And a big PP is already being sued in Japan over something like this.
This is debanking, monopolistic behavior/ collusion.

You mean, abondoning every purchase I've already made here? And you say *I'm* disengenous? I already said: I'm not giving them any money. And I'm giving criticism here.
You tell me to not speak up and give up everything I already own here (which also means: giving them the benefit of not costing them anything) as protest?
Let me guess, you're also on the publishers side against stop killing games, aren't you?
Just stop for a second and think. As a business do you think they want to accept the payment method about 95% of people use? Yes, 95% of credit cards in the US are Visa or Mastercard.
That means you've just eliminated 95% of your customers ability to purchase even if you took american express or alternate methods. People are not going to solely fund their purchases by running out to buy physical cards every time they want something.
There are some fights that aren't worth fighting because the risk is too great.
Good read. Next time the police stops me in my car and sees my loaded guns and tries to steal them from me and jail me forever, I will use my guns to defend myself, my kids and my property.
Thank you Steam user for your support 👍👍😊
What flawed argument? Did *you* stop and think? Or *read*? I said its hard. And yes, It ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is. But not as hard as you make it out to be - the whole thing can even be segregated so those purchases *don't* run through these processors, and people don't buy a game every 5 minutes so it becomes such an inconvenience to buy something else, or hell... "american" here and there.... Other countries exist, and they are a *big* market for Steam.
And I said: Challange! You can comply first but challange it. They don't even do that.
And some fights are simply not worth it... Yeah, you are just to lazy and complicit - until you are shocked when literally everything has been eroded away.
So it needs repeating:
So, do you think Game Of thrones should be banned? The show features the same elements you just listed. And your profile shows someone with a gun. I think that is intended for killing. Murder is illegal... So say goodbye to your account?
Just take look at Melinda Tankard Reist. She spearheaded this. And she influenced the Payment Processors to act on their behalve. But fine, just close your eyes and pretend that they won't come after you, and that they have zero Influence just after they demonstrated the exact opposite.
