Visa and Mastercard have way to much control

The world of gaming has a lot of highly intelligent people. For example, the dude that created Stardew valley.

Is it possible to create a payment processor for games by gamers?

That is absolutely possible, spending enough time and money. Getting enough 'gamers' to use it over Visa/MC to compensate for cutting ties with those companies is not.

What if Steam allowed such games to be purchased using Steam Wallet funds only? We would buy Steam Wallet credits with an accepted method. Then, they could spend those credits on any content available on Steam. This "workaround' would get past what credit card companies might otherwise restrict if purchased directly. In Theory, could it actually function the way I imagine?

The situation isn't 'The payment providers don't want their cards used to buy those games' but 'The payment providers don't want to do business with a company that sells these games'
How about adding QR code payment as another alternative? Most country in asia already using it

Sorry, i mean "integrated qr code payment system" for example: japan - jpqr, indonesia - qris, vietnam - vietqr, or singapore - sgqr
Just to state again, Visa isn't saying "You can't purchase those with our card" they're saying "You can't have that on the store and accept our cards on the store"

And the payment providers for that system are Paynet/ShopeePay/Payplus etc. Unless they would become a real competitor to Visa/MC in Europe and the US Valve still can't cut ties to those. Also, I wouldn't be sure being dependent on other external payment providers instead of Visa/MC is a solution to the influence of payment providers.

Well, it gives user another option. Essentially breaking the monopoly and even the playing field. Hence lessen the influence that visa/mc have over steam.

But atm. it is a do or die situation for Steam. They need to comply to MC/Visa right now because if they cut ties (or Visa/MC do) they lack the time to get customers to change to new payment providers. Also: If a payment provider isn't active in Europe/the US Steam offering it as an alternative doesn't do much.

Yes, hence the lack of response from steam. At this moment they have no other choice but to comply to visa/ms demand. But in the future, i think steam should consider adding another payment option, so the same case doesn't happen again while keeping another option open.

Given how insanely popular VISA/MC are. I'm fairly sure we are going to have the same issue a couple years down the line.
