It is a possibility.

However, Steam is one of those services that are too big to fail. There are other companies that would snatch it up in a heartbeat if they could. It would most likely get absorbed into another company like Microsoft.

Well yes essentially you would and you wouldn't be able to do anything about it unfortunately

Nothing is ever too big to fail. Even Microsoft. If Windows 11 isn't a perfect example of why they should fail I don't know what is.

That said, I'll do what I always do. Don't worry about it until it happens. Life is too short to worry about something as low on the totem pole as gaming is. That's coming from someone who has been gaming since the mid 70's.

As much as I love gaming there are more important things in life. You will learn that eventually if you haven't yet.
i miss hard copies.

Oh my bad. This was meant as echo chamber for the doomsday crowd.

I rather not own my games on Steam than support the freaks at GoG and their anti freedom of speech policies.

I remember them removing a game from their store because it had a line of text in-game that could potentially-possibly-maybe been seen as negative towards Xi Jinpin.

Together with hundreds of other games they denied publishing for all kind of weird censorship reasons.

You don't own them, so you have nothing to lose.

Well he does lose something, he loses access to playing those games he paid for. Let's not pretend he loses nothing since that's simply not the case

Microsoft survived the failure of Windows ME, Windows Vista and Windows 8/8.1 (among others), it will (easily) survive unpopularity of Windows 11. It's not like there is alternatives (no, Linux and MacOS aren't alternatives to Windows) until Windows 12 comes out. While Windows 11 market share is only ~1/3 and Windows 10 2/3 now, Windows 10 market share will crash once Microsoft ends support for it like has happened every time support ended for previous operating systems. It's logical as once the support ends, you can only get computers with Windows 11 until Windows 12 comes out.
I'm more worried about not getting enough sleep at night and it affecting my afternoon naps than I am of losing my games.

These worries are giving me hope that we're not gonna accept a total Apple/Netflix Games kinda system where you can only play as long as you pay a monthly sub. People want to own their games

True, but he already agreed that this might happen. It is as if you agree to work for no payment, and then complain when payment suddenly stops.
