Limited accounts can't post most links.
aah, interesting. I never really noticed the whole limited account thing myself since I immediately bought a game.
Their names also do not parse on the forums unless a non-limited user quotes them.
But for "most" links not Steam and not YT, they're removed/hidden until quoted by a non-limited account.
Limited accounts in the past were used to spam scam links, sure. That's part of the reason why.
You can always quote a removed link to see what it really is.
VAC bans aren't viruses. There's only two things that'll trigger a VAC ban. The first is playing on a VAC-secured server from a computer with known (to VAC) cheats on it. The second is having your account linked to another account (via phone number or library sharing) that was caught cheating.
If you don't do either of those two things you're not getting a VAC ban.
