What you had was more of a VAC error, which isn't a ban.
It's not uncommon for someone to come to the VAC forum and claim they have a VAC ban, simply because they immediately panic at the word VAC and don't read the in-game message properly.
Usually, a simple restart of the PC is enough to get everything working again.
Usually, something on your PC wasn't playing well with the game, but it's not a ban.
For a VAC ban, you'd have to have cheats on your PC, or a linked account would have been subsequently banned.
