VAC bans are exclusively issued for cheating and are both permanent and non-negotiable.

Regarding phone number:
You should not share your phone number. It is used to identify you as the account owner. If an account is detected as using cheats and its phone number is linked to other accounts at the time of infraction, they will get banned, too.

You are responsible for the recency of your account information, this includes removing phone numbers you no longer own.

You are warned each time of the consequences for applying the phone number when you receive the confirmation SMS. Nobody but you can apply the phone number you own.

Also note:
In accordance with Section 1 C of the Steam Subscriber Agreement, you are fully responsible for all actions on your account, no matter who used the account. This includes actions that occurred as the consequence of fraudulent account access by phishing or malware, be it input relay, session token theft or any other method that granted a third party access to your account.

a false ban is vac misidentifying a process/program as a cheat.

since your ban was caused by phone sharing (you are warned that bans will transfer if any account with that phone number cheats).

since the ban hasn't been removed, it is correct and permanent regardless of what you say. nothing you post is getting the ban removed. if you want proof of this, go look at all the other threads in this forum. none of them has gotten their ban removed by posting on the forums.

They then sold the account to someone else, and that person used cheats, which caused the ban. I’ve already reported this to the police. So why can’t the ban be lifted? I didn’t cheat myself! Also, it was said the ban was related to phone number linking, but why is the ban still here?

No. Any bans added to an account will remain regardless of who was using the account at the time the infraction occurred. Ultimately, the use and security of your Steam account are your responsibility.

I really hope it was an expensive lesson to learn not to buy Steam accounts.
