smd_bone_vis is a mesh instead of a bone
this issue appeared right after the release of the source tools for 2.8. basically no matter what model i open after it's been decompiled, the smd_bone_vis is always a big spherical mesh instead of an actual bone, and if you export it as is, it will still remain a mesh when you compile it. this is an annoying issue which i don't know how to fix. deleting the mesh usually leads to other issues so i wouldn't recommend it.

smd_bone_vis was (and still is) a customized mesh object and assigned to pose and object bones when you import a Valve source SMD or DMX file.

It also did exist in 2.79 but was hidden and had a fake user assigned to the object so it couldn't be deleted.

Blender 2.80 doesn't hide it for some reason when you import the smd/dmx files.

It shouldn't be deleted, but you can just hide it and deselect it from the exportables when you export your model.
