Just tried using the new tools, need advice
I just started with Blender 2.79 a year ago as a non-Steam install. but I have the Steam version at 2.8. This new "collections" exporting is a bit confusing. I'm trying to use the latest Source Tools to export 10 different mesh objects, but they"re all in one collection. Do I need to put each object in a separate collection? Any advice on how to set up my meshes in Blender so I can export single objects would be greatly appreciated.

In the "Source Engine Exportables" properties panel thingie of the Blender Source Tools plug-in, select the collection, then in the "Group Properties" section, enable the "Suppress" tick-box to make all exportable objects of that collection export individually.

Yup, as Zappy suggested, The collection is Blenders new way of making the Layers that you could move object to in the Objects Mode menu bar of 2.79. Now instead of being restricted to 20 layers, you can have as many collections as you want. If also acts as a Grouping function where BleST is concerned "collecting" all the objects in a collection into a group. Selecting "Suppress Collection" will split the the individual items out for export.
