Blender Crashes upon selecting Engine Path. Please Help!
I've been following tutorials here and there on how to export the models from blender to SFM and now i'm very much stuck. I've already sucessfully exported my .mdl files to where I want them to be, and I just want to compile the .qc file so I can finish the process.

However, when I select the path with the studiomdl.exe, blender suddenly crashes for no reason??? I already tried both SFM and Team Fortress 2's directories /bin to no avail. Does somebody know how to solve this? Am I just an idiot doing something wrong?

Many thanks in advance if you know a solution ( -___-)

Hi, the Source Tools should never be able to crash Blender. When the path changes the script will check for the presence of resource compilers, which should be a simple and safe operation.

Please report this as a Blender bug and they will ask you for the technical details. I can't make it crash myself.

Turns out it wasn't source tools that crashed the program but actually the program itself couldn't export to ANY directory inside the program files folder and crashed because of that. My guess is that it has to do with weird program permission stuff.

Many thanks for you help either way. Have a wonderful day (,, - u - ,,)

What happens if you paste the path into the box? (For me I paste, D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\SourceFilmmaker\game\bin)

I had the same issue where choosing export path crashed blender and just copying the path and pasting into the export box was an alternative. It fixed itself after a while. Hope someone can find a explanation for why this may occur.

Good Luck!

After fiddling with it for a while I figured out that for some reason my computer didn't enjoy blender having access to program files (x86), so by changing the directory for exporting I managed to solve the problem, just like you did it

Thanks for the advice either way. Have a nice day :D

I've reproduced the crash and filed a bug about it. You can avoid the problem by deselecting the "Relative Path" option in the file dialog. It's hidden behind the gear icon in the top right.
