Can't import SMD?
When i try to import smd i just get this error:

Any idea on how to fix?

Are you trying to import onto a hidden Armature? It should be unhidden automatically, but perhaps something has gone wrong there.

I'm getting a similar error when trying to import a reference SMD (mesh and bones, no animation) into a completely empty scene in Blender:

The SMD model imports fine in Milkshape 1.8.4, but Blender Source Tools seems to hate it. Here's the model successfully imported into Milkshape:

That's an issue with the QC file, not the SMD file(s). Try importing the SMDs directly.

Sorry, not sure I follow; what is the "QC file"? I only have SMD files.

Sorry, got confused. It's a problem with the SMD file. Where did you get it from? Can you upload it somewhere?
