Can't seem to add onto materials of an existing .smd
I exported a model from mods.tf (great site btw very nice people there) but i can't seem to add the materials onto the one model from another that is basically the same just has different textures (zombified and fresh) but when i export it after adding materials, giving the materials textures and all it needs (names too), i import it back into blender and........ it has only the visible/assigned materials, anything else "unused" jsut gets wiped for some reason even though i've done this before, it worked before and for some reason this problem now exists for me

TL;DR - new material not work with old, need help, getting pwnd

That's normal. If a material isn't assigned to any face, then the material either "cannot exist" or "wouldn't do anything" in an exported DMX, and it "cannot exist" in an exported SMD as well.

If you're trying to use the "unused" materials as additional skins, you should just add them to a $TextureGroup block in the QC file. If you're trying to use them on separate body groups, then you only have to add/assign them on those body groups.
Ok I found out the problem, it was my stupid, dumb, brainless and very much shortsighted me who didn't realise he added an EXTRA LETTER tp the $basetexture and various other material attributes that use a file path so basically, it was just me all along who did it all tipsy turvy, STILL, I love you for responding to my pleas of absolute insanity and (hopefully) viewing this ramble, yeah, you - thanks man c:
