[BUG] Unable to upload content to the Steam Workshop
I am trying to upload a piece of L4D2 content to the steam workshop, but keep running into a problem in Crowbar. While Crowbar is very clearly able to connect to steam as it shows all of my other workshop content in the publish tab, when I try to upload a new piece of content, Crowbar gets stuck on "Processing content for upload." for a few minutes, until steam crashes and Crowbar just says "ERROR: " (with no following error message). Any help?

If Steam is crashing, that's probably a problem with Steam and not Crowbar.

Try the following development version of Crowbar and let me know if it works or not, and what the log messages are.

The dev version still caused the same issue with Steam crashing. The log at the bottom (if that's what you mean) still says "ERROR:" with nothing after.

Thanks for the feedback.

What do you mean by "steam crashes"? Does Steam close itself? Does an error window pop up in Steam? After Steam crashes, are you able to continue using Crowbar?

What size file are you trying to upload?

What are the quota numbers shown in the box below the Publish button?

Steam is "not responding" when Crowbar tries to upload, and when Crowbar says "Error" steam totally closes without any error or crash message, and yes, Crowbar stays open and I am able to continue to use it (I am unable to use the publish feature obviously because Steam is now closed).

My file size is 281 MB

The quota below the publish button just says "unknown"

Thanks for the info.

Have you tried uploading via the workshop uploader app found in L4D2 authoring tools?

Yes, that works just fine, I'd just like to upload through Crowbar if I can for the better thumbnail support

What operating system are you running Crowbar and Steam on?

Would you link me the VPK and image file you are trying to publish? I can try publishing the same files (with Hidden visibility) to my L4D2 workshop; maybe Crowbar or Steam is having trouble with one of them.

Just to be clear. Did you try uploading the same VPK and image via the L4D2 workshop app yesterday? If that app had similar problem as Crowbar, then it's likely a Steam problem, but if it had no problem, then it's likely a Crowbar problem.

Would you try publishing with Crowbar today and copy-paste the entire publish log into a reply here? Would you also link a screenshot of Crowbar window after Steam crashes? You can screenshot just the Crowbar window by making Crowbar the active window, pressing Alt and Print-Screen keys at the same time, then pasting into a image app, such as Paint, saving it there. Zip it up with the VPK and image file you are trying to publish.

Thanks for helping me debug this.

Alright, so I somewhat have solved the problem. I don't know why I didn't try this before, but after using a different thumbnail it worked flawlessly. The first thumbnail I was using that was causing the issue was a gif that I assume was to large for steam/crowbar to handle, so once I used a regular old png it worked fine. The gif was 17.2 mb if that is any help.

Also, I am using Windows.

Glad you figured it out. Thanks for letting me know.

I'll test Crowbar with bigger preview images and try to avoid crashing Steam.

Related to preview image size crashing.

Posted via Discord from Nihil:
if you try to use a 1x300000 pic as a preview on l4d2 workshop, crowbar will crash with [internal] error
