[FIXED][BUG] Left 4 Dead 2 Recompiled Francis and Louis Models Have Animation Errors
Steps Taken:
  1. Extract survivor_biker.* and survivor_manager.* files from "...\SteamApps\common\Left 4 Dead 2\left4dead2_dlc2\pak01_dir.vpk" for decompiling.
  2. Decompile survivor_biker.* and survivor_manager.* files
  3. Re-compile the (unedited) models. However, louis requires removing some unused $jigglebone lines from his .qc file inorder to successfully compile his model.
  4. Repack into a .vpk with appropriate files and folders, and copy it into the addons folder
  5. Launch L4D2 on a local server and test the recompiled survivors' animations.

Expected:
No changes from the original models.

Issues:
  • Francis's and louis's animations malfunction (see screenshot).
  • The same process doesn't cause Bill and Zoey's animations to malfunction, however.
  • Unlike Bill and Zoey, Francis and Louis both contain extra $animation and $sequence lines in their .qc files, they also have matching .smd files in their animation folders.
  • Removing these $animation and $sequence files from their .qc files, and their matching .smd files contained in the animation folders resolves the malfunctioning animation issues in singleplayer, but will still malfunction in multiplayer.
  • Louis also needs some unused $jigglebone lines removed from his .qc file inorder to successfully compile his model.

Animation recompiling is a known issue across all models. Some animations work and some don't. Research is ongoing.

The jigglebone issue is new. I'll look into that.

I tested with Crowbar 0.29 decompiling and recompiling "survivor_manager.mdl" as described above and I saw no errors. Jigglebones had no problems in the compile.

I am leaving this bug report open due to the anims-recompile issue.

This is fixed for next release, except that some sequences mess up the jigglebone movement. Still working out how to avoid that.
