EMC Rules
EMC Guiding Principles
Heavily inspired from Hot Mess's ones here with Vol's authorization.

Attempting to circumvent a ban in any way, including in using an alternative account, is considered as a serious offense and might result in a permanent ban for BOTH alternative and main accounts.

Even though this post is coming from Hot Mess, EMC's changes are taking in count the fact that people are escaping their bans with the increasing amount of other competitive group servers. Therefore, the temporary ban length are increased in a last and desperate attempt of changing players overall behaviour after all those years playing the game.

Be Fair - Good sportsmanship is the primary principle on which EMC was founded. You won't always get to play with your bff, and you may sometimes have to play with someone you don't prefer. We are all adults, let's act like it.

Be Kind - The whole point of EMC is to have fun and spend time with friends. We never want to see someone get frustrated, upset, or not having fun because they are being made fun of or personally attacked, and that kind of behavior is never acceptable. On the other hand, friendly banter is all part of the game, so don't be overly sensitive and offended by comments meant as humor. One thing that will never be tolerated at EMC is any sort of discrimination - age, race, gender, sex, religion, etc. Please choose your words carefully, we are all one family, let's act like it.

Be Ready - The game becoming more and more deserted, we are sometimes waiting a lot of time already in lobby and don't want that it keeps going on the server. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Install any custom maps in advance. If you need a bio break, please ensure there is a proper fluid receptacle under your desk to minimize the time it takes to ready up.

Rage Quitting

Rage quitting and intentional griefing will result in the following penalties, to be doubled with each infraction:
  • First offense: 3 days.
  • Second offense: One Week.
  • Third offense: Two Weeks.

Please note that at admin's discretion, these infractions MAY be reduced to a warning only, depending on the circumstances.

If you wish to report a player for violating these rules, you must submit a Ban Request on the EMC Sourcebans[164.132.204.147]. Please do not contact an admin directly, as you will just be directed to Sourcebans. If you do not submit a Sourcebans Request, including full details of the situation, as well as your contact information, then no action will be taken.

Spamming the announcements will result in a 2 days ban, not every players in the groups want to play L4D2 or to have his/her screen full of announcements.

Tank Rule

Whenever you are assigned a tank, you should play that tank. DO NOT spectate to avoid playing your tank, unless you, or the person you are subbing for, have already played a tank, and in fairness it should be played by a different member of your team.

Spectator Conduct

Spectators are allowed so long as they aren't disruptive to the game in process. This means keeping Global Chat to a minimum. If a player finds your chatter dispruptive, it is within their right to insist spectators use Team Chat only (and will mainly kick you for doing it). Spectators abusing this rule are subject to a 2 days ban, and if the behavior continues, may be subject to the Toxic Players policy.

Votekicking

Vote kicking of players is not allowed, regardless of the reason. If a player is taking too long to readyup between rounds, then report to an admin. The reason for this is to avoid conflicting stories. If a player found to be votekicking other players for any reason, they may be subject to a two day ban, and any subsequent infractions will be dealt with in accordance to the Toxic Players policy. If a player is acting in such a way as to intentionally bait a votekick, they may be subject to a 3 days ban and any subsequent infractions will also be dealt with in accordance to the Toxic Players policy.

Toxic Players

It's not a crime to be a jackass... unless your behavior is found to interfere with a player's comfort. Examples that cover, but are not limited to:
  • Intentionally sacking survivor/infected rounds.
  • Excessive trolling and/or trashtalking.
  • Abusing !pause and !ready.
  • Harassing other players into subbing themselves out.
  • Attempting to manipulate the rules in order to troll or get others banned.
If you are found to be displaying overtly toxic behavior, you may be subject to a mandatory one week ban, and repeat offenses will be punished in an exponential manner, for example:
  • First Offense - 1 week ban
  • Second Offense - 2 week ban
  • Third Offense - 4 week ban
This policy may seem harsh (even compared to Hot Mess), but it is intended to keep EMC a fun, inviting place to play. A few problematic players can ruin the experience for everyone else, and the goal is to minimize that situation to the extent possible.

Cheating & Glitching

Obviously, cheating or hacking of any kind is not tolerated at EMC. Autoexec.cfg usage is not seen as cheating, but below are some examples of items that are considered cheating:
  • Internal or external programs that aim for you or assist in your aim.
  • Aim bots, no spreads, ESP (wallhacks), etc
  • Alterations to SI skins
  • SI trails
  • Altering the map to remove vegetation(Mathacks)
  • Alterations to sound files
  • Custom weapon skins
  • Custom skyboxes
  • Custom huds
  • Custom cross-hairs
  • Any attempt to override a server's addons setting
Cheating of any kind will result in a permanent ban.

Glitching of maps is highly frowned upon, and may result in a One Week ban. If the behavior persists, the player may be subject to the Toxic Players policy. Examples of glitching include, but not limited to:
  • Spawning under the map
  • Teleporting the tank or other SI
  • Intentional pausing during witch for disruption
Other glitches, such as spawning through the safe room door at the end of a map or blocking tank on a ladder, are considered bad sportmanship. Please, play fair, it will be more fun for everyone.

Macros & Scripts

As using one of these provides an advantage upon other players, it is seen as a third-party helper. When false positive will be excluded, using one of these will lead you to a one month ban. Do it again and it will be a permanent ban.

VAC-Banned account

And as cheaters are not desired on EMC servers : any player which has been recently VAC-banned (less than three months ago) caught playing on the servers will be automatically banned without any warning. Even if this VAC-Ban was not on L4D2 : cheating is cheating.

Bans/Complaints Summary

Temporary ban offenses apply to the following:
  • Trolling or disrespect to other members of the community.
  • Using obscene or excessively pornographic sprays to shock, disturb, or harass other players.
  • Steam group announcement spam.
  • Abusing bugs, glitches, unsportsmanlike conduct including ragequitting.

Please do not approach me to file a complaint or dispute a ban. All complaints and disputes are formally tracked in order to maintain accountability.
