Sartorius gained a following online by posting videos of himself lip-synching to popular songs on Musical.ly. He had accumulated millions of followers across various social media sites by the age of 13.[1] He posted his first video to Vine on August 17, 2014, but did not post regularly until February 2015. The first video was static and was a message against bullying.[2]
In January 2016, Sartorius joined the MAGCON Boys as a special guest, a tour where fans can meet and interact with Internet personalities.[citation needed]
On May 3, 2016, Sartorius released his first single "Sweatshirt", which charted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 90, and on the Canadian Hot 100 No. 81.[3][4]
In June 2016, Sartorius signed with United Talent Agency, making him their first client whose primary platform is Musical.ly.[5] He is also signed to T3 Music Group.[6]
On July 25, 2016, Sartorius released his second single "Hit or Miss", which debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 72, becoming his highest charting single to date.[7]
On October 2, 2016, Sartorius released his third single "All My Friends".

Sartorius was born in Oklahoma. Shortly after his birth, he was adopted and moved to Virginia.[8] His adoptive mother has appeared in his Vine videos. He has an older adoptive sister named Caroline, who is a college student.[9]
