Yeah, loot boxes in free to play games. Shocking. You can just like, not purchase it and continue playing the game for free. It's in no way the same as microtransaction in >$60 games.

CS:GO was a pay to play game since 2012, they put microtransactions/lootboxes in 2013 and the game finally became F2P and full of hackers around December 2018.(imagine a kitchen full of cockroachs, that's CSGO and TF2's ranked statuses right now...)
The same applies to TF2 but with different dates, the game was first P2P, then random cosmetic loot was added, then lootboxes(dubbed "Mann Co. crates") in September 2010, and after that the game went F2P in June 2011.
